His family has been associated with the freedom struggle; His grand father Barrister Shah Zubair represented Bihar in Council of States. He was an eminent freedom fighter, a close associate of Dr. Rajendra Prasad and was President of Bihar and Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee. His father Late Shah Mustaque Ahmed was Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly. He was Chairman of Bihar State Sunni Waqf Board and Bihar State Urdu Academy; started career as a journalist; Founder Editor, Chhatra, a weekly tabloid in Hindi published from Patna, 1972-74; Editor, Yuvak Dhara, first a weekly tabloid and later a fortnightly maganize published from Patna from 1974 and later published from Delhi since 1982; Editor, Tanzeem Times, a monthly magazine in English published from New Delhi since 1986; Chief Editor, Sadakat Vani, a monthly maganize in Hindi published from Patna since 1988; Editor-in-Chief, Rashtrawadi Sankalp, a fortnightly newspaper in Hindi published from New Delhi since 2001.
